You Don’t have to Fill Every Space

This particular posting has been weeks in the making.  Every time I would sit to write it, an interruption, a crisis, or writer’s block.  Now, I am certain that it was the divine timing of the message.  Each interruption and crisis gave more credence to the topic of today – “You Don’t Have to Fill Every Space.”

This phrase came to me from my friend Paulette Pearlman, a local artist, owner of the UnReal ARTist Gallery, and owner of the Mermaid Mobile many years ago.  I remember that we were sitting in her gallery discussing ways we could work together and the spaces she had available for art while munching on her homemade mermaid cookies and having a spot of Joe.  That is when she said it – “You know, I don’t have to fill every space.”  There was something in her tone that spurred something in me and my mind started reeling with the breadth of that seemingly benign statement.

My mind immediately went a vision of the nautilus shell. Each cavern of the shell is a space for the creature to grow over time.  Each space is not filled all the time.  We are always looking for ways to fill each space in our lives with more things, activities — more “stuff.”  Do we need more stuff?  Not really.  Most of us have more stuff than we need or even want for that matter.  Our schedules are filled to the maximum all the time.  Do we ever allow ourselves time to breathe, grow, or…just be?

This empty space is the place that we allow ourselves to dream, to be creative, to process our daily lives, and to be clear minded.  If we do not allow ourselves that time, we will become blocked, ungrounded, and out of balance.

I remember soon after soon after this conversation with Paulette, I received my Usui Reiki Master Teacher designation, I discovered that I am much happier when I am in balance, when I am grounded, and when I am open to new opportunities and ideas.

My friends, divine timing is always at work.  As I follow my path, I am finding new opportunities, that I never imagined, are presenting themselves to me.  Follow your path and listen to your inner child, NOT your inner critic.

If you need help, I am available as a life, spiritual, and creativity coach.  Soon, I will be offering workshops to help you find your own path. Until then, let your child come out and play for a while.  You don’t have to fill every space.

Always keep moving forward and if you need – Sit, Stay, and Heal.
